This is an unusual love story. The cinematography was beautiful. Watch and respond.

Q15: Zhou Yu's Train
Q14: Children of Huang Shi
Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars in this true story about a journalist who becomes involved trying to save children from becoming casualties of war. It's a powerful story and the ending will stay with you for a while.
Watch and respond.
Q13: Not One Less
This is a very good story about a young Chinese teacher caring for her students. (Zhang Yimou again.) :)
Watch and respond.
Q12: Emperor and the Assassin
This is a film about the First Emperor. I don't know if the love triangle aspect is true, but many of the events in the film are based on facts.
Watch and respond.
Q11: Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress
I've done a terrible thing linking this. The film is wonderful - it takes a little while to get into it, however. It is based on a book that seems to be making modern literary canon. The problem was I couldn't find a trailer. Some students put on a trailer for a school project, which was atrocious. Someone else linked part of the film itself with no subtitles.
Then I found this. You'll see why this is funny (and shouldn't be) if you click on the link below. The film itself, however, is not funny.
Q10: Hero
This is another great film by Zhang Yimou. Plus, it has Jet Li who is phenomenal. (If it has Jet Li or Zhang Ziyi, chances are good I'll sit through it at least twice.) The battle sequences are amazing and some of the scenes stay in your memory long afterward. Yimou's gift is in painting a lasting impression.
Watch and respond.
Q9: Curse of the Golden Flower
Another interesting story by Zhang Yimou. (Seriously, he is like the Chinese director.) Characters cross all sorts of lines in this one, which is disturbing. Saying anything more would ruin the shock if you choose to watch the entire film.
Q8: Three Kingdoms
This is one of those rare trailers that kept the red card warning. (You'll usually see a green card before a trailer, indicating that the trailer has been rated G or PG. The red card means even the TRAILER has been rated R.) You'll see why it got this rating if you watch it. The battle sequences are great.
Watch and respond.
Q7: Road Home
If you like a good love story, this is your film. It's also Zhang Yimou's direction again, so it is wonderful. :) Watch the trailer and respond.
Q6: Farewell, My Concubine
This film looks at Chinese history through the eyes of a performer. Watch the trailer and respond.
Q5: Lust, Caution
This was Ang Lee's last film before he died. :( It is more espionage than love story. The score is really compelling also. Watch and respond.
Q4: House of Flying Daggers
I'll watch any film Zhang Yimou directs and probably watch it over and over. Here's another one of his films. What was interesting was I found a UK trailer as well as US. They are both official trailers, but one adds more. Which one is more appealing to you and why?
Q3: Fearless
If you like martial arts films, you have to watch Jet Li. This film showcases some of his greatest abilities while still maintaining a strong story line. Watch and respond.
Q2: Raise the Red Lantern
This is a great story well told. The use of color is really fascinating. Watch and respond.
Q1: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
This is an amazing movie. Great action with hints of romance; the storyline embodies and embraces much of Chinese mythology also. Watch the trailer and respond.
